LG Chem is introducing cutting-edge technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI) and big data to its major business sectors so as to fully embrace the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution Refers to rapid change to technology, industries, and societal patterns and processes in the 21st century due to increasing interconnectivity and smart automation.

Its key businesses include petrochemicals, advanced materials and life science, where the company will utilize smart technologies to establish optimal production sites and lead the future of the chemical industry here.


LG Chem has already introduced and operates an AI chatbot "ChemBot" on its business website.

AI chatbot technology talks to people in text and answer questions through a messenger-based interactive system. The technology recently came into the spotlight for increasing work efficiency and convenience in various industries.

ChemBot not only supports the personnel searching function in the company but also manages personal schedules and provides notifications on upcoming duties. It is also designed to learn and use technical terms used in the office. ChemBot will accumulate work-related knowledge and experiences into big data and utilize it in a way that allows self-learning.

In addition, LG Chem is pioneering the smart factory by incorporating information and communication technology (ICT) in the fields of manufacturing and research and development.

In the petrochemical field, the company plans to ameliorate work efficiency and increase productivity by improving the defect rate by utilizing "deep-learning" technology based on IoT and big data.

In 2018, the company installed cameras in its super absorbent polymer (SAP) production line in Gimcheon factory, Gyeonggi Province, where it applied a deep-learning algorithm that learns behaviors via moving images. This is helping LG Chem to deal with production line shutdown affected by foreign substances and improve the efficiency of product inspection. (Advertorial)
