LG Innotek has been recognized for the quality of its vehicle components, as the company has won the best supplier award from U.S.-based global carmaker GM on multiple occasions.

The LG Group affiliate said Wednesday that it has won the 2021 Supplier Quality Excellence Award from GM for five consecutive years from 2017 to 2021.

The company has been increasingly expanding its presence in the car component business, an industry with a promising future as it uses more and more electronic equipment in vehicle manufacture. The award stands as testament to the company's consistent supply of quality products to carmakers and to the importance it places on the stability of components because they are directly correlated with passenger safety.

"The Supplier Quality Excellence Award is given by GM every year to its partners that have met the strict standard of zero quality defects. Only the companies that have supplied parts for completed vehicles with perfect quality are eligible for this award," LG Innotek said.

LG Innotek has been supplying car components for electric cars to GM, such as DC-DC converters and electric vehicle communication controllers (EVCCs), since 2010.

The DC-DC converter steps down high-voltage direct current from the battery into low-voltage direct current for vehicle accessory devices. The EVCC transmits the information on battery-charging status, the driver and the charging fee between an EV and a vehicle charging station.

The company has won various awards not only from GM, but also from other companies such as Continental, Schaeffler and Jaguar Land Rover thanks to its thorough quality management.

"The company has raised the bar for automotive quality control standards continuously by acquiring global certificates, complying with new standards ― such as cybersecurity ― and participating in the development of those standards," LG Innotek said.

Yoo Byaeng-kuk, head of the Automotive Components & Electronics Business Unit of LG Innotek, said in a statement, "LG Innotek will present next-generation products with complete quality such as vehicle sensors, cameras and communication modules, and innovate customer experience in the global electronic vehicle and autonomous vehicle markets."
