LS Cable & System (LS C&S) is strengthening its business partnerships with local medium-sized firms to develop new products and cooperate in the sales business, the company said, Sunday.
The company recently started selling LAN cable test devices along with their manufacturer, Kangwon Electronics. The test terminal quickly inspects short circuits or wiring errors when a cable is inserted into it. When there is an abnormality, an LED on the device lights up intuitively. It also allows self-tests and long-distance inspections, thereby reducing labor costs and construction time when building a cabled network.
There is no on-and-off switch on the test device and it only supplies power while operating, to save battery life. The company has applied for a patent for this function.
LS C&S said that its technology and Kangwon Electronics' market information produced synergy from the test terminal's development stage to enhance both product function and consumer convenience.
LS C&S also successfully localized the production of sensor cables for automobiles last year jointly with local manufacturer Expantel, as part of a state-run task.
Oxygen sensor cables used in vehicle engines must be thin and maintain a uniform thickness. Previously, they were mainly produced and imported from Japan.
LS C&S has been sending its engineers to Expantel not only to help them develop new technology but also to build a quality management system.
"Previously, our main business was producing cables for communication networks. However, through collaboration with LS C&S, we have diversified our business into the automobile cable market. We are not looking to expand our business globally," an Expantel official said.
