LG Energy Solution will supply more battery packs to Ford Motor as the American automaker expands its global production of electric vehicles, including the Mustang Mach-E and E-Transit, the company said Friday.

LG will double the size of its battery production lines in Poland by next year and continue to build more plants.

"We have secured enough battery packs that can produce about 600,000 electric vehicles next year. LG Energy Solution, which has been supplying battery packs to us for a long time, has rapidly increased production volume in Poland, where we get our battery for our electric vehicles," a Ford Motor official said.

The battery maker has been supplying its products to Ford for two of its electric vehicle models since the second half of 2020. The Mustang Mach-E is an electric sports utility vehicle (SUV), which is one of the two major products that leads Ford's conversion into electric vehicles, along with the automaker's first electric pickup truck, the F-150, which has recently been launched.

The Mustang Mach-E recorded global sales of more than 55,000 units last year alone and Ford continues to increase production of the electric SUV. At the end of last year, Ford Motor CEO Jim Farley wrote on Twitter that "the company will increase its production capacity of Mustang Mach-E to more than triple by 2023." LG Energy Solution is currently supplying battery packs for the Mustang Mach-E which are sold in its major markets, such as North America and Europe.

In addition, Ford will invest $50 billion (65.6 trillion won) in the electric vehicle field by 2025 to produce more than 2 million EVs annually. By 2030, the automaker plans to increase the sales of its electric cars to more than 50 percent of its overall sales.
