Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Nexon, Krafton and other Korean companies unveiled their gadgets and games at Gamescom, using the game industry trade show in Germany as an opportunity to meet European consumers, they said Wednesday.

The trade show, which is being held in Cologne from Aug. 24 to 28, is one of the world's largest game-related trade shows along with E3 of the United States and Japan's Tokyo Game Show.

This year's Gamescom has gained much attention from related industries because it is returning to in-person events after years of pandemic-induced hiatus. The organizers said companies have been participating in the event both offline and online.

Nexon, which joined the event online, unveiled a preview video for its shooting game "The First Descendant."

"The new trailer video targets gamers who love shooting and role-playing games with its unique action and fantasy world. The game also shows high-quality visuals as it is based on the 3D computer graphics game engine Unreal Engine 5," Nexon said.

The company also unveiled previews of the shooting game "Veiled Experts" and the PC-only game "Dave the Diver."

Krafton, best known for its online shooting game "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds," showcased previews of its upcoming games "The Callisto Protocol" and "Moonbreaker."

"The Callisto Protocol" is a survival horror game that takes place on Callisto, a moon of Jupiter. The game will be released on Dec. 2 via various platforms such as consoles, Valve's digital game distribution service Steam and PCs.

The game has gained attention from gamers as it is directed by Glen Schofield, who is best known for developing the "Dead Space" series.

Samsung Electronics took the trade show as an opportunity to promote its gaming monitors. The company said the highlight of its promotional booth is its new gaming monitor, the Odyssey Ark.

The Odyssey Ark has a 55-inch curved display to provide an immersive gameplay experience. To give consumers more options, the large screen is designed to be used either vertically or horizontally.

In time for the opening of Gamescom, Samsung said it opened pre-sales for the Odyssey Ark in nine European countries, including Germany, on Wednesday and will release the product across Europe within the third quarter of this year.

Samsung Display also joined Gamescom in a bid to promote its latest display technologies. Under the theme of "What's the Next Gaming Display," the company displayed laptops equipped with OLEDs with 240-hertz refresh rates and QD-OLEDs for TVs and monitors.

To demonstrate the clear advantages of using OLEDs, Samsung Display installed an OLED Gaming Experience Zone so that visitors can play shooting games and experience the difference between OLED displays and non-OLED displays.
