LG Chem is increasing its effort to improve awareness of the importance of environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) values through its RZ mobile application, the company said Wednesday.
The company said the RZ app is a platform designed to help people practice ESG activities in their everyday life. When users perform various kinds of missions such as taking selfies of using eco-friendly products for three months or taking a quiz about biomass, donations can be accumulated automatically for those in need.
The RZ app has garnered over 10,000 users within three months of its launch.
"The company launched the app to help people practice ESG values in daily life and transform their efforts into donations that can be used for people in need," a company spokesman said.
"The app's name contains the meaning of 'react to zero,' to react and act together to bring social conflicts, imbalances and environmental problems down to zero," the official said, adding the app can be downloaded from the Google Play app store and Apple App Store.
LG Chem used some of the donations accumulated through RZ to support three people, including a patient who was unable to receive rehabilitation treatment due to economic difficulties. The company said the patient had difficulty moving alone after receiving more than 10 brain surgeries, but was able to continue rehabilitation thanks to the donation.
LG Chem said it has helped many people in need as well as other places that need more support such as environmental protection education and support for elderly COVID-19 patients.
"We hope that RZ's good influence will contribute to creating a better future for our society," Shin Hak-cheol, CEO of LG Chem, said in a statement.
