Ssangyong Motor officially launched the Torres SUV, providing customers with more options to choose trendy SUVs with sleek designs and well-rounded technologies.
Ssangyong unveiled the Torres at a media showcase in Nest Hotel on Incheon's Yeongjong Island, Tuesday, with around 300 people in attendance including executives and employees. The Torres Media Showcase was held simultaneously both online and offline.
"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to many internal and external stakeholders, including partners, for their active cooperation and generous support for the Torres' successful launch," Ssangyong Motor manager Chung Yong-won said. "We put all our efforts into developing the Torres with the DNA of Ssangyong Motor, and we will continue to introduce new models that better reflect the identity of Ssangyong Motor in the future."KG Group Chairman Kwak Jae-sun gives a congratulatory speech at the Torres Media Showcase held at Nest Hotel on Incheon's Yeongjong Island, Tuesday. KG Group Chairman Kwak Jae-sun also attended the event. KG Group was selected as the final candidate to acquire Ssangyong Motor.
"Companies exist for three reasons. First is making a good product and doing something worthwhile in the world. Second, taking care of employees' livelihood and happiness. Third, gaining investor trust. Ssangyong Motors lacked all three. Now, I want to join forces with Ssangyong to create a company that supports all three aspects," KG Group Chairman Kwak Jae-sun said during his congratulatory speech at the media showcase. "Ssangyong Motor is expected to be the last difficult managerial task I will face in my life. However, Ssangyong will be reborn as an admirable company."
Torres is the first design based on "Powered by Toughness," a new design philosophy of Ssangyong Motor. In line with the downsizing trend, the Torres is matched with an eco-friendly 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine with excellent quietness and a third-generation Aisin 6-speed automatic transmission to back strong performance, the company said.
The turbo gasoline engine has a maximum torque of 28.6 kg-m and a maximum output of 170 horsepower. Fuel efficiency is 11.2 kilometers per liter based on two-wheel drive (2WD).
The Torres is equipped with integrated adaptive cruise control (IACC), which guides the vehicle to stay in the middle of its lane while maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front not only on highways but on any roads. In addition, a blind spot warning (BSW) system is implemented to warn of collision risks from the rear when changing lanes as well as a blind spot collision assist (BSA) system to help prevent side accidents.
