LG Energy Solution, the rechargeable battery manufacturing affiliate of LG Group, said it will fortify corporate growth, Monday, defined by greater emphasis on employee happiness and satisfaction, a key strategy for retaining skilled young workers.

Firm CEO Kwon Young-soo said earlier this year on the company's intranet that he would listen to the concerns and opinions of employees.

"The most important customer of LG Energy Solution is its employees," he said. "We will transform corporate culture to make young workers happy so that they are part of an entity where contributions are valued."

About 80 percent of 10,105 local LG affiliate employees are MZ Generation (born between 1981 and 2005) as of the second quarter of this year.

This is why the firm says the working environment is governed not by hierarchical, top-down orders, but more of a "horizontal" way of exchanging opinions and ideas. The open and free work settings are more productive, as enabled by the faster implementation of policies and revisions, which are just as fast.

The firm seeks to become the top industry player drawing in talented entry-level employees and those with years of experience seeking new career opportunities, mostly by providing strong employee benefits and compensation, autonomy and personal growth experiences. The efforts are in part evidenced by 10 percent year-on-year increases in employee salaries for the past two consecutive years.

"LG Energy Solution is emerging as the top rechargeable battery manufacturer in Korea. So will our corporate culture, including employee remunerations and how firm-wide communication channels are operated and managed," an LG Energy Solution official said.

An example of the open communication that the company wants to foster is EnTalk, an intranet platform whereby Kwon will be required to respond to messages shared by the 33,000 firm employees.

The online communication platform was launched in November last year, and has since drawn over 700 recommendations, questions and criticisms.

Kwon must respond to each one within a week of the posting date. If the matter needs discussion with relevant departments, as many as 30 days will be given. (Advertorial)
