A 59-year-old salesman of Hyundai Motor has achieved cumulative sales of 7,000 vehicles for the first time in the company's history, according to the carmaker, Monday.
Hyundai Motor said Lee Yang-gyun, the sales director of its Anjung branch in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, had sold 7,000 cars as of June 29. He set the record 32 years after he joined Hyundai Motor in 1990.
The title of sales master is given to Hyundai Motor's salespeople who have sold over 5,000 vehicles. Lee gained the title in 2014 and was given another award in 2019 for selling 6,000 cars.
"It is a great honor to achieve cumulative sales of 7,000 vehicles for the first time in Hyundai Motor's history," Lee said.
He added that desperateness enabled him to achieve the goal. He emphasized that he has made efforts to strengthen his personal networks in the local community by participating in various club activities.
His achievement also drew attention as the 7,000th car he sold was a Nexo sport utility vehicle. The fuel-cell vehicle is regarded as an eco-friendly futuristic vehicle because it only emits water from its exhaust pipe minus pollutants.
"Whenever I visit the branch to look for new cars, Lee has always been there. He has always been very nice to me, even if I do not buy a car," said Wang Yeon-sang, the customer who bought the 7,000th car. "This is the third car I purchased from him."
To spur on salespeople to sell more nationwide, Hyundai Motor has given prizes and titles to salespeople achieving cumulative sales of 2,000, 3,000, 4,000 and 5,000 vehicles each. The company has also selected "masters of the year" and given out "Class Awards" to its staff who have achieved the largest numbers of annual sales.
