BERLIN ― Samsung Electronics shared its vision to enable people to live a smarter life with devices that have better connectivity as well as its efforts to make the world more sustainable, the company said, Thursday, a day before the IFA 2022 tech fair held in the German capital.

The Korean company set up an exhibition and business consulting space of 10,072 square meters ― the largest exhibition space among the participating companies ― at the IFA.

At the entrance of its booth, called the Samsung Town, a tunnel consisting of large LED screens is installed to greet visitors.

Samsung Town is comprised of a space that introduces Samsung's SmartThings, an internet of things (IoT) platform as well as its efforts to contribute to a sustainable world. A space where visitors can engage with various Samsung products such as visual displays, home appliances, mobile devices and memory chips.

To enable users to control all Samsung devices in one platform, Samsung has been offering the SmartThings IoT platform for many years now.

At its IFA booth, Samsung created seven residential spaces to introduce 20 scenarios for the use of SmartThings so that visitors can experience and better understand the power of integrated connectivity between devices.

By connecting more than 100 IoT devices such as solar panels, electric car chargers, lighting, blinds and speakers, the company showcased a more expanded SmartThings ecosystem.

Eco-friendly efforts for sustainable future

Samsung introduced 10 kinds of eco-friendly offerings such as Galaxy Upcycling, eco-friendly packaging and SolarCell, a remote control that has a solar cell panel embedded within it, which means that it can be used almost indefinitely without the need for disposable batteries.

In collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), it introduced the Samsung Global Goals app, installed on its latest Galaxy smartphones, to offer simple ways for users to learn about global issues such as inequality, climate change and education and to generate funding for the UNDP's initiatives.

An eco-friendly washing machine, resulting from collaboration with U.S. outdoor clothing brand Patagonia, is also on display. The appliance uses EcoBubble technology, developed to reduce friction between fabrics, which is a major cause of the production of microplastics.

In addition, Eco-Friends, high-quality eco-friendly accessories for its foldable smartphones, wireless earbuds and smartwatches are displayed in line with the trends regarding the values that younger generations place increasing importance on.

Ranging from Micro LED TVs and Neo QLED TVs that boast ultra-fine picture quality, to the Odyssey Ark 55-inch curved monitor for game playing, Samsung's state-of-the-art display products can also be seen at the booth.

The company's Bespoke Home appliances are on display to attract consumers in Europe as well. The Bespoke Home is comprised of a refrigerator, induction stove, dishwasher and oven.

Its latest foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Z Flip 4, as well as the Galaxy Watch 5 smartwatches and the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro wireless earbuds, along with new solid-state drives, are also noteworthy products to look out for.

Supporting Busan's bid to host the World Expo 2030

During the IFA fair, Samsung will screen a promotional video that supports Busan's bid to host World Expo 2030 on a 17-meter-wide large screen at the booth.

In addition, the company will distribute a brochure that promotes Busan's bid for the 2030 event to visitors.
