IBM Korea said Thursday that it has introduced a new data utilization method, simplifying access to a vast amount of information based on artificial intelligence (AI).
The global IT solutions provider held a press conference Thursday on Yeouido, Seoul, to explain its "data fabric" service and related technologies.
"Whether or not a company will succeed really depends on how well they utilize the data. But many companies only focus on collecting data and they don't really use them efficiently. Most of them don't analyze data and leave it unused," said Dillon Choi, a principle technical specialist manager of data, AI & automation (DAA) at IBM Korea.
"Companies normally use more than five cloud systems on average to save data and run software. The traditional way of just copying and pasting to manage dispersed data on public and private clouds, on-premises and servers costs a lot and it is inefficient."
Not only does data fabric help companies to simply manage their data, it also allows them to continue utilizing information storage like databases, data lakes and data warehouses.
Furthermore, the new technology accelerates a company's data management strategy by providing "automation of data integration," "embedded governance" and "comprehensive perspective on data." Unlike data utilization methods that are controlled centrally, it supports direct data access for individual users.
IBM Korea also helps many global companies introduce data fabric architectures based on its "IBM Cloud Pack for Data" and accumulated expertise in the field.
The IT solutions firm offers products and services such as the IBM Watson Knowledge Catalog and IBM Watson Query to address complex technical issues concerning strengthened data governance and privacy, and to further beef up data protection.
In addition, data fabric provides integrated visibility into all enterprise data in a multi-cloud environment and helps enhance their analytics and capabilities in AI utilization.
IBM Korea is currently providing services that enable companies like Samsung Electro-Mechanics and Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance to build holistic visibility into their abundant customer data and actively support them to build reliable AI systems for data, models and processing.
